World Energy Day. Perspectives of the RES sector in building Europe's energy future

On the occasion of World Energy Day, which falls on 22 October 2025, it is worth paying attention to the dynamic changes taking place in the European energy sector.

According to the latest data, almost half of the electricity in the European Union already comes from renewable energy sources (RES). This is a key step towards decarbonising and ensuring the region's energy security.

Europe aspires to be a world leader in renewable energy production, supported by ambitious climate goals and investment in modern technologies such as wind and solar. Advances in energy efficiency and the development of smart grids enable flexible management of demand and supply.

  • In June 2025, for the first time in Polish history, renewable energy sources (RES) produced more electricity (44.1%) than coal (43.7%).
  • At the end of August 2025, the installed capacity of RES amounted to almost 36.5 GW, which represented almost 49% of the total installed capacity in the Polish energy system.
  • In August 2025, energy production from RES accounted for 37.5% of the national mix, and the amount of energy produced increased by 15% compared to August 2024.
  • Photovoltaics maintains a strong position as the largest source of renewable electricity in Poland, with a total installed capacity of more than 21 GW at the end of 2024.

These figures show Poland's significant progress towards energy transition and the positive impact of RES development on the energy mix. World Energy Day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of switching to sustainable energy sources. This is our shared responsibility to the planet and to future generations.

We encourage the conscious use of energy, support for innovation and action to protect the environment.
