The European Commission has launched proceedings against Poland and 17 other EU countries for failing to meet key recycling targets for 2020.
Poland, as well as among others. Spain, France and the Czech Republic failed to recycle at least 50% of municipal waste, such as paper, metal, plastics and glass, as required by EU rules.
According to the EU directive, 65% of all packaging waste must be recycled by the end of 2025, and 70% by 2030. These targets also include specific levels for materials such as glass (75%), paper and cardboard (85%) and plastics (55%). Unfortunately, many countries, including Poland, still do not meet these requirements, which leads to possible consequences on the part of the European Commission.
Countries now have two months to take corrective action and respond to the EC's allegations.
