Northvolt has launched a state-of-the-art sodium ion battery with a capacity of 160 Wh/kg. This is a big change, since until now energy storage was mainly done with lithium-ion batteries.
The modern battery is to be used in energy storage, produced in an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective manner. The cell was tested at Northvolt Labs in Västerås, Sweden, a research, development and industrialization campus. It achieved a best-in-class energy density of more than 160 watt-hours per kilogram.
