Poland is the last EU country that has not implemented an extended producer responsibility (ROP) system. Currently, the costs of managing packaging waste are mainly borne by residents, while municipalities are responsible for recycling. For this reason, this year many municipalities may find it difficult to meet the required levels of recycled waste, which threatens with penalties.
The ROP system would shift the financial responsibility for waste to producers, which could reduce costs for residents and give municipalities a better chance of meeting legal requirements. The lack of ROP results in a shortage of funds, which raises costs for residents and introduces additional problems, especially with the upcoming bail system. 🌍
Will it finally be possible to implement this system? Time will tell.
